description
Menashe Kadishman’s sculptures deal with biblical topics, the oneness of man, animals and the environment, and reflections on life. The artist, born in Tel Aviv in 1932, usually uses rolled steel and a blowtorch to create his works. He has frequently been known to cause a sensation, as was the case with his distressing installation »Shalechet (Fallen Leaves)« in the Jewish Museum in Berlin.
In this work he invited visitors to walk across thousands of iron discs into which he had chiseled screaming faces. In addition to being successfully represented by his works at the Documenta IV and at various Biennales, Menashe Kadishman has also received many awards. In this book, the author Marc Scheps, former director of the Tel Aviv Museum and the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, presents Kadishman’s 20 most important sculptures in both illustrations and texts. A biography and an exhibition list complete the overview of this exceptional artist’s work. This book will be copublished in association with Edition Jürgen B. Tesch.
