“When I delve into Nauderer’s ‘black/white painting’, I soon realise that I know nothing. After that, I feel purged.” Josef Bierbichler
“Herbert Nauderer is one of the important artists working in the medium of drawing in present-day German art. For him, drawing is quite simply synonymous with his human existence.” Dr. Erich Schneider, Kunsthalle Schweinfurt
“The fact that we so willingly accompany Herbert Nauderer on his travels through dreams and through time, the fact that we are virtually swept along by him, is the result of his masterful drawings.” Dr. Thomas Heyden, Neues Museum Nürnberg

Herbert Nauderer
Mouseman’s Land
Herbert Nauderer whisks viewers of his work away to a parallel world. The drawings, collages and retouched pictures that constitute his “Mausmannsland” (Mouseman’s Land) cycle coalesce into dark dream sequences. They are linked by the “Mausmann” (Mouseman), a figure wearing a black mask whose threatening silhouette is reminiscent of Mickey Mouse.
description
Herbert Nauderer (* 1958) is an independent artist and musician whose collages and videos have been shown in numerous national and international exhibitions. The “Mausmannsland” (Mouseman’s Land) cycle features distorted childhood photographs and family pictures, drawings and retouched photographs that appear to be interlinked in a fantasy world. The masked “Mausmann” (Mouse Man) is always present among the figures that populate the mysterious works. In contrast to the famous Disney character, there is nothing cheerful about him, however. The “Mausman” stands for humankind itself, for the constant cycle of humans’ longing and failure.
